Parasite (2019): Movie Review

 Parasite (2019) - Movie Review

1. Introduction

Have you ever watched a movie that not only entertains you but also makes you think? "Parasite" (2019) is one such movie that has won worldwide appreciation for its art and deep thinking. The film is made by South Korean director Bong Jo-hoo and also won the Oscar award for the best film. The film presents social and economic inequalities in a tremendous way, which is extremely relevant in today's society. "Parasite" not only gave Korean cinema international recognition, but the film is also famous for its plot, characters, direction, and cinematography. So let's know what is so special in this film that makes it worthy of such big awards?

 2. Plot Summary -

The story of "Parasite" revolves around two families - a poor Kim family and a rich Park family. Ki-woo, a member of the Kim family, gets a job to teach tuition at the Park family's house. After this, gradually other members of the Kim family also start working in the Park family's house, and their lives take a turn. But the story does not stop here, there are many twists in it that surprise the audience. The film beautifully shows how inequalities and class differences in society affect people's lives. "Parasite" is a great mix of humor, drama, and thriller. The end of the film is so unexpected that the audience just sits quietly till the film ends.

 3. Cast & Characters

The characters of "Parasite" and their performance are what make this film so special. The main character of the Kim family, Ki-tak, who is a selfless and emotional person, is played by Choi woo-sik. At the same time, the mother of the Kim family, Chong-sook, is presented brilliantly by actress Hanjo-yeon. The emotional performance of these characters makes the story of the film even more effective. On the other hand, the members of the Park family live a rich and happy life, but their world is very fragile. The members of this family, including Lee-sun, who is a peace-loving woman, are played brilliantly by actress Cho Yeon-jo. All the actors have shown so much depth in their characters that we get connected to their emotions and struggles during the film.

4. Direction & Cinematography

Bong Jo-hoo's direction is the biggest highlight of this film. He has presented every aspect in a very subtle and vicious way, due to which the film surprises the audience at every turn. The special thing about his direction is that he portrays both simple and complex emotions well. Hero Min-ho's wizardry is visible in the cinematography. He has used the depth of the scene, use of colors, and camerawork very thoughtfully. Every frame in the film can be seen as art. For example, when the Kim family enters the Park family's house, the camera angles and its movements help the audience feel the tension of that moment.

 5. Writing & Storytelling

The writing of "Parasite" is quite touching and impressive. The story of the film is so intricate and complex that every scene opens up a new layer. Bong Jo-hoo not only understood the mindset of the characters perfectly, but also presented a powerful and shocking story based on them. He brings together different layers of society and shows the audience how a small decision can bring about big changes. The pace of the film is also so perfect that you never feel that any part is redundant. "Parasite" has maintained a balance of humor, horror, and emotions very beautifully.

6. Music & Sound Design

The music of the film is composed by Track fame Kim Joo-hwan, who created a new and tense music for the film. The piano and suspense building tracks in the film's music make your heart beat faster. The sound design is also very effective, where every little sound - be it the rustling of leaves or the ticking of a clock - makes the cinema atmosphere more lively. The sound design of the scenes that create a sense of fear and silence in the scene, completely immerses you in the film.

 7. Themes & Messages

"Parasite" presents the inequalities and class struggles of society as a strong message. The film shows how the gap between a poor and a rich family is not only in their social status, but also in their attitude and mindset. The issues raised within the film such as the gap between the rich and the poor, inequality of opportunities, and corruption in society are all very deep and thought-provoking. Bong Jo-hoo has shown all this so clearly that it stays in the minds of the audience for a long time.

8. Personal Opinion & Critique

In my opinion, "Parasite" is a masterpiece. It not only gave me a good cinema experience, but also made me think about society. While the first half of the film is light and fun, the second half shocks you and increases the tension. There are some scenes in this film that I found extremely impressive and some of those scenes are still fresh in my memory. However, the length of the film could have been a little more dense, and the pace felt a little fluctuating at some places, but despite these flaws, it is a great film.

9. Audience & Recommendations

"Parasite" is definitely for the audience who likes strong storylines, deep messages and complex characters. If you are the kind of person who doesn't just watch movies for entertainment but also likes movies to think and feel, then this movie is perfect for you. Also, if you are interested in Korean cinema and global cinema, then this movie is a must watch.

10. Conclusion & Rating

In conclusion, I can say that "Parasite" is a movie that not only entertains you but also makes you think about society, life, and class differences. Its tight screenplay, strong acting, and effective direction have made it a classic. I give it 4.5 stars out of 5.

Final Thoughts: If you haven't watched "Parasite" yet, then add it to your list. It will give you a new perspective and will stay in your mind for a long time.
