The Possession (2012) - Movie Review
Are you a fan of horror movies? Do you like movies that make you jump out of your seat? Then The Possession (2012) might be the perfect movie for you. This movie is a scary story as well as shows family relationships and the struggle between good and evil. This movie has magical powers and ghostly events, which make the movie even more terrifying.
The story revolves around a family. One day, a little girl, Amy (Natasha Calis), buys an old and strange box, which is cursed by a mysterious demon. Amy's behavior gradually changes, and she starts doing very strange things. Her mother and father, who are now separated, start investigating the case. They find out that there is an evil spirit locked in the box, and they have to fight that spirit to save Amy. Will they be able to save Amy from this evil spirit? This is the main mystery of this movie.
Kyle Spenny (Amy) has given a great performance in the film. His hard work and fierce personality has brought a new life to the film. Apart from this, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Kyle) has played the role of the father, and Caroline Herbert (Mary) has played the role of Amy's mother. All the actors have performed brilliantly in their roles, which makes the film even more powerful.
The film is directed by Ole Bosse, and he has made the film full of fear and suspense. The cinematography is also excellent, in which every scene is shot in a very creepy and precise manner. Especially the scene when the effect of the curse is seen on Amy, and there are strange changes in her eyes, they are very scary.
You can watch The Possession on Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. The film is shot primarily in English, but its subtitles are available in Hindi and other languages. There is no second part of this film, it is a standalone film.
The writing of the story is very good, especially the elements that create fear and suspense are very effective. The film also has a strong message that any problem can be solved by the unity and trust of the family. Although, the film may feel a bit slow at some places, but it keeps the audience engaged till the end.
Music and sound design play an important role in the film. In the haunting and scary scenes, the twisting sounds of the music and the sudden increasing sounds create fear. Especially the scene when the voice of the demon is heard is very scary.
Main topics like superstition, family and fight against evil have been touched in the film. This film gives the message that the love and trust of the family can counter any haunting or cursed situation. Apart from this, it also tells that any curse or evil force is not always in front of us, but we have to recognize it and fight it.
According to me, The Possession is a good horror movie that not only scares you but also makes you think. Although some scenes in the movie may seem a bit ordinary, the movie still keeps you full of suspense and fear. The tempo of the movie may be a bit slow, but in the end it impresses the audience with its scary moments.
This movie is especially for those who are fond of horror movies and who like magic, ghostly events and suspense. If you like watching horror movies, then definitely watch this movie.
Overall, The Possession is a great horror movie that presents a good mix of suspense, fear and emotion. I give it 3.5 stars out of 5.
